90 per cent of Singaporeans regard the Straits Times as a non-essential business. This was according to an online poll conducted by Wake Up Singapore.
The poll asked “Is the Straits Times an essential or non-essential business?”.
Over 2,100 people responded to the poll. By an overwhelming majority, 90 per cent of respondents selected “YES” and only 10 per cent “NO”.
The Straits Times was previously embroiled in public controversy over an article infographic that presented the summary of an opinion poll of what jobs were the most “non-essential”. The opinion poll ranked artists as the number one non-essential job sparking a backlash among the artist community in Singapore.
